This is a one session class: Saturday, May 9th, 1:30-4:30pm
Prerequisites: Knit, purl
Course Description
Many of us know one or two cast-ons that we use for all situations. But there is a multitude of
cast-ons available to us, and each is useful at different times. Learn to choose a cast-on that is
appropriate for your knitted fabric. We'll cover a cast-on for K1, P1 rib which is as elastic as the
ribbing itself, a provisional (temporary) cast-on done with a crocheted chain, and several
utilitarian cast-ons. Start your knitting off right!
Skills Learned
Nine cast-ons will be covered (as time allows).
Supplies
Smooth, light-colored worsted- or DK-weight yarn to practice the cast-ons; small amount of
contrasting yarn to be used as waste yarn (lightweight smooth cotton works well); needles and a
crochet hook in an appropriate size for your yarn; a set of needles in a small size (e.g. size 0, 1 or
2). Optional: Hang tags to mark samples; stitch holders or waste yarn (and a tapestry needle) to
keep samples from unraveling so you can keep them as a reference.
Homework
None.
Ages 15+
Please note that the deadline to cancel or reschedule is 48 hours before the class time.
